It has a long history of manslaughter, murder, and of course fire. And along the way it’s racked up its share of tenant disputes, the most recent ones after a fire in 2014 left many tenants out on the streets.
But what’s happening now at the notorious building may be the most bizarre. As much as 2/3 of the building’s suites are sitting empty. That’s as many as 250 suites with no paying tenants. And that’s in a city with a rental housing crunch that has the vacancy rate hovering around 0.5%.
